The National Economic and Development Authority-Regional Office X (NEDA-X) presented the highlights of the Northern Mindanao COVID-19 Regional Recovery Program (RRP) during the Mindanao Chamber Management Forum held 07 September 2020 via video conference.
Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño, NEDA-X Regional Director and RDRRMC-X for Rehabilitation and Recovery Vice Chair, showcased the RRP along with the Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2017 – 2022 Midterm Update and its imperatives, the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP²) Program, and the Innovative Platform for Programs/Projects/Activities’ Location Assessment(IPA-LAMDAG) as part of the session on public and private engagement in the development and monitoring of regional recovery and resiliency.
NEDA-X, the sole NEDA Regional Office invited as one of the speakers, led the formulation of the COVID-19 RRP. The P197 billion-plan contains 64 strategies with 339 proposed programs and projects across five sectoral themes.
“Our Regional Recovery Program also outlines the roles of the private sector. We want to ensure availability and accessibility of food supply and to reinvent existing business operations and business models in adjusting to the ‘new normal’ needs and wants of consumers,” Cariño stressed.
The agency head highlighted the vital role of the private sector in the pursuit of sustainable and inclusive development, and the establishment of safer and resilient communities for the region and for Mindanao.
The region’s various chambers are active participants in the Northern Mindanao Task Force for COVID-19, particularly the Economy Task Group, as well as in regional response and recovery efforts through provision of support to front-liners, extension of services, and input to policy recommendations.
Cariño said IPA-LAMDAG, a web-based monitoring tool for monitoring and evaluation that tracks and maps the Programs, Projects, and Activities of government agencies and SUCs, has been a game-changer for the monitoring of the RDP, RRP, and BP² with the private sector involvement as active members of the Regional Project Monitoring Committee. The forum is one of the events leading to the Mindanao Business Conference, an annual gathering of business organizations and industries in the major island. This year’s event will run from 10-11 September 2020 via video conference. (NEDA R-X)
